How To Install Wood Plank Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is an affordable, durable, and easy-to-install flooring option that can give your home a beautiful and stylish look. It's a great choice for busy families and those who want a floor that can withstand wear and tear. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to install wood plank laminate flooring:

Materials You'll Need:

  • Laminate flooring planks
  • Underlayment
  • Vapor barrier
  • Expansion gap spacers
  • Laminate flooring cutter
  • Hammer or mallet
  • Tapping block
  • Pull bar
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Circular saw

Step 1: Prepare the Subfloor

The first step is to prepare the subfloor. The subfloor should be level, smooth, and dry. Any existing flooring should be removed, and the subfloor should be inspected for any damage. If there are any cracks or holes, they should be repaired.

Step 2: Install the Vapor Barrier

Once the subfloor is prepared, you need to install a vapor barrier. A vapor barrier will help to prevent moisture from seeping up through the subfloor and damaging the laminate flooring. The vapor barrier should be laid down over the subfloor and taped at the seams.

Step 3: Install the Underlayment

The next step is to install the underlayment. The underlayment will help to cushion the laminate flooring and provide sound insulation. The underlayment should be laid down over the vapor barrier and taped at the seams.

Step 4: Lay Out the First Row of Planks

Once the underlayment is installed, you can start laying out the first row of planks. The first row should be laid parallel to the longest wall in the room. Use spacers to create an expansion gap around the perimeter of the room. The expansion gap will allow the laminate flooring to expand and contract with changes in temperature and humidity.

Step 5: Install the Remaining Rows of Planks

Once the first row of planks is installed, you can start installing the remaining rows. The planks should be snapped together using a tapping block and hammer. Work your way from one end of the room to the other, staggering the joints between the rows.

Step 6: Cut the Planks to Fit

As you reach the end of each row, you will need to cut the planks to fit. Measure the distance from the last plank to the wall, and then use a laminate flooring cutter to cut the plank to size. Be sure to leave an expansion gap at the end of the row.

Step 7: Install the Trim and Moldings

Once all of the planks are installed, you can install the trim and moldings. The trim will cover the expansion gaps around the perimeter of the room, and the moldings will provide a finished look to the floor.

Step 8: Enjoy Your New Floor!

Once the trim and moldings are installed, your new laminate flooring is complete! Enjoy your new beautiful and durable floor.
