How To Sand Wood Floors For Staining

Sanding wood floors is a necessary step before staining them. It removes the old finish and smooths the surface of the wood, providing a good base for the stain to adhere to. Sanding can be done by hand or with a power sander. If you are sanding a large area, it is best to use a power sander. However, if you are only sanding a small area, you can get away with sanding by hand.

To sand wood floors by hand, you will need the following materials:

Sandpaper (80-grit, 120-grit, and 220-grit)
Sanding block
Dust mask
Safety glasses

Power sander
Sandpaper (80-grit, 120-grit, and 220-grit)

Sanding By Hand

To sand wood floors by hand, follow these steps:

Put on your dust mask and safety glasses.
Attach the 80-grit sandpaper to the sanding block.
Sand the wood floor in the direction of the grain.
Once you have sanded the entire floor with the 80-grit sandpaper, switch to the 120-grit sandpaper and sand again.
Finally, switch to the 220-grit sandpaper and sand the floor one last time.

Sanding With A Power Sander

Attach the 80-grit sandpaper to the power sander.
